Why Origin?

Emily and her partner bought this traditional home in early 2020, with a lockdown looming and a large project in the works, it made this renovation even harder to plan. The couple had their hearts set on a bi-folding window, to sit above the countertops in their kitchen, however, given the circumstances they were struggling to find someone who could fulfill their dream. That’s until they found Origin, being a UK manufacturer, it meant our availability and lead times were far better than a lot of our competitors, along with our 20 year guarantee to seal the deal, Origin were the best choice for this young couples home.

Confidence in Origin…

As well as the fast lead times, Emily loved the quality and modern aesthetic of our products. With an already beautiful house including decades of history, she wanted to make sure they could rely on the products to stand the test of time. Origins 20 year guarantee, weather testing and police backed security, meant Emily felt confident that we were the right choice for the job.

A bit about the project…

After falling in love with this beautiful thatched cottage, set back in the Cotswold’s country side, the two wanted to make this house their home. Being an old property, the layout and design of the house just wasn’t practical for this young couples modern lifestyle. Wanting to bring more light into their home, the couple opted for an open plan living style. Opening up the kitchen, and adding a 5 pane OW-70 bi-folding window and a large OB-72 single door in anthracite grey (RAL 7016M), they managed to completely transform their kitchen, into a light, bright and modern space with hints of its traditional heritage.

As seen on TV…

Be sure to take a look at Emily and Anthony’s thriving Instagram account over at @thatchedyewtreecottage - Their journey was even documented on Channel 4’s very own George Clarke’s Old House New Home (Season 7, Episode 5). During the episode it’s clear how impactful the bi-folding window is in the kitchen space and a clear favourite of George Clarkes.

The outcome…

Since completing the project, Emily has told us how pleased they are with their Origin products. No matter how much time passes, the couple still get excited every time they walk into their kitchen and are greeted by that marvelous view. Wanting to make the most of the new found light, the couple find themselves opening their bi-folding window every time the sun is out… even in the winter! (With a view like that, we don’t blame them.)
