House prices have increased substantially in Bath over the years. Our extension has easily paid for itself. But more importantly, it's improved our quality of life. We wouldn't change a thing.

For nine years, Drew and his wife Lauren have lived in Bath. Their semi-detached house included a living room, dining room and small kitchen downstairs. However, after having two young children, Henry and Lucy, the couple needed more space for their growing family.

In 2014, they completed a double storey extension, to add a large kitchen, diner/living area downstairs, together with a large master bedroom upstairs. The project involved extensive renovation, so the family rented a house locally for five months while it was happening.

Drew explained: "When we originally planned the extension, we really wanted to include some bi-folding doors. It was about bringing the outside, inside. We've got quite a large garden, it's an attractive lawn with shrubs and borders, and woodland behind. We wanted to experience all that."

To make the most of this view, they built a deck that extended across the entire width of the house, with steps down on to the lawn. Crystal Clear, a local Origin partner were chosen to install the bifold doors and windows, and invited Drew and Lauren to visit their showroom to see the Origin Home Range first-hand. It was there that the couple chose Origin as the best solution for their needs.

A 5+0 door configuration in anthracite grey (RAL 7016) was selected to run across a 4m opening. Five doors were considered the best option as the couple wanted all doors to open the same way, across the space. After consulting with their architect, further fine tuning was made to the design. As Drew explained: "We included a raised cill for practical reasons, and went with 2.35m high doors so we could let in as much light as possible. We matched our kitchen window height to the top of these doors, for aesthetics."

The window in question is also from Origin. It's a casement window, fixed and hung to the left, also in anthracite grey. Both doors and windows have brushed chrome handles, and their anthracite colour perfectly complements the larch-clad kitchen/diner which absorbs light and prevents glare from the Bath stone on sunny days. What's more, it's a natural material that works in harmony with the surrounding environment.

A roof light was fitted to provide more visibility for the area on dark evenings. Its RAL colour and profile were specially selected to match the bifold doors.

Drew and Lauren's Origin doors inject the 'wow' factor they always wanted from their new extension. Looking out, they can see every aspect of their beautiful garden, and enjoy it at all times of the year. Neighbours and friends alike have been very complimentary, and enjoy every visit. The new space is also as practical as it is stunning, offering the family a lot of valuable extra space and a great domestic lifestyle.

Drew summed it up perfectly:
