A beautiful, panoramic view of the coast and  rolling hills was the inspiration for the renovation of the Griffiths’ property. Having lived in their home with their two children for nine years, they wished to replace their existing sliding uPVC doors and create more space, making the most of their view.

Choosing the right material

Being near the coast means that the property is more  exposed to extreme weather. Wooden and uPVC doors are prone to expand and contract as the temperature changes. They can become warped, look weathered and provide less protection from the elements, so choosing the right material was vital. The Origin Bi-fold Door is made with premium-grade aluminium, which helps to avoid this problem completely. Every aspect of the door – from the weathertight seals, right down to the powder-coat finish – is designed to deal with the changeable British climate. It insulates the home all year round, keeping a property cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Bi-fold Doors were the solution

When they decided that they wanted Origin Bifolding doors due to the openness they would create, The Griffiths' sourced their local Origin Premium Partner, Aspect Windows via the Origin website. The doors themselves come in a range of options – from configurations to colours, handle types and threshold styles – they can be made completely bespoke to a homeowner’s needs. Each door is developed with special finger-safe gaskets, to stop little fingers from getting trapped. Magnetic keeps hold the doors in place when they are folded back, making the doors safe for everyone in the family.

As well as opting for a four-door set (in RAL colour 7032, Pebble Grey) that would open outwards onto their balcony, in a 3+1 configuration , they ordered a casement window to also be installed in the living space and a set of French doors for their office.

Creating the perfect family space

The extension has created a bigger family space and living room. The doors opened this up further by creating a wall of light when open or closed, with a low threshold out to the balcony area providing a seamless link to the seaside town below – a view which is cherished by the Griffiths'. Installing the bi-fold doors has changed the way that they interact with their home, and they have found that they now use their outside space more because of how easy it now is to access.

When asked how they feel about the finished project, the couple said “We’re very pleased. The doors make it all worthwhile.” Their friends and family have all been very impressed with the difference the doors have made to their home. The Griffiths' have recommended Origin and Aspect Windows because of the quality, look and feel, as well as the smooth installation process.
